COUNSELLING SERVICES
ALCOHOL AND DRUG COUNSELLING SERVICES – KIRSTEN MAIER (RCC)
My name is Kirsten Maier. I am glad to be joining the team at the Skwah First Nation Health Center as a Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I have several years of experience working in local First Nations Communities offering individual, couples and family counseling. I have been in practice for over 10 years helping people listen to their life experiences to find personal healing and growth. I believe each person has something unique to offer which can benefit the whole community.

I can help adults and teens with many life situations such as:

  • Building strong relationships to yourself and others
  • Living a full life despite historical trauma
  • Managing grief, depression and anxiety
  • Work and life balance through self-care

If you know anyone who would benefit from my experience and service, I would very much appreciate if you would refer them to me. Please contact me at the following number to set up an appointment: 604.996.6723

TRAUMA PSYCHOLOGY – ALLYSON CUSHING (RCC)

Allyson grew up in a small fishing town in rural Nova Scotia. She moved to British Columbia in 1993 with a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, and has since completed her Doctorate in Psychology with a specialty in Trauma. Allyson has worked in the field of Trauma Psychology for well over a decade. She was introduced to First Nation communities in 1993 when she began working as a Therapist for Xyolhemeylh (The Sto:lo Child and Family Services Program).

Allyson credits much of her personal and professional development to her work with First Nation communities. She believes that counselors do not provide answers, only good questions that will empower people to identify their own truths and acknowledge their own resiliency.

Allyson continues to work with First Nation communities throughout British Columbia. She strongly advocated that people in the helping field “walk their own talk.” She has worked with numerous First Nation and Non First Nation Social Service Agencies to advocate for trauma informed service delivery. In addition to her private practice, she is well known for developing and facilitating training programs for frontline workers as well as community wellness programs.

She is available at Skwah First Nation every second Thursday. Referrals go through either Carol Alexander, the Front Desk, or Sunny Sundman.
